Sunset on Ponte Scaligero
Verona - Italy
I miss the sunsets over the sea.
I was born and lived all my childhood in La Spezia, a seaport.
We left the city to come to Verona shortly after my mother died, when I was twenty.
The sea is always within me. If I concentrate, I can still hear the sound of the waves crashing on the rocks, the pungent smell of the salt air on stormy days.
If I close my eyes, I see the shimmer of the sun reflected on the water that creeps through the shutters and plays at decorating the ceiling on hot summer afternoons.
Memories of a distant past, now lost.
